Day 21 of my 21DSD

Day 21!  It is here.  The last day of my detox.  Since I forgot to go to the farmer's market yesterday, I have had to eat whatever is in my fridge.  I am too lazy and it is too cold and rainy to go to the store.  lol  The past 3 weeks have gone by really fast.  I cooked a lot of meals out of the new 21-Day Sugar Detox book and all of them were really good.  I think that helped my not get bored.  I also try to always cook double the recipe so I will have leftovers to grab if I need them.

I will be writing a post tomorrow about my 21DSD experience.  Overall, it was really good and I may jump on board again on December 2nd.

Here was my food today

Day 20 of the 21DSD

Today is day 20!  I woke up late this morning (we have a foster puppy who is sick and kept us up all night) and my husband had made breakfast.  I did take eggs out of my diet but it has been almost two weeks now and guess what he made?  Yep, eggs with chorizo, tomatoes and avocado.  Was I going to turn it down?  Nope!  So, I ate it and I can say, I didn't feel any different.  Hopefully, I can eat eggs without a problem.

I totally forgot to go to the farmer's market this morning.  Boo!  I guess I was too sleep deprived.
So either Whole Foods or the grocery store for me this week.  I have a farm pick up Monday for my meat and eggs.  I ordered some chicken feet too to make some great chicken broth.

My family ordered pizza for dinner.  Not just pizza hut but good New York style pizza.  I did not eat any but I sure wanted some.  I have not been eating dairy this detox but I did have tomato with mozzarella.  It was bette than eating pizza!

Here were my meals today

Breakfast
Chorizo, eggs, tomato and avocado

Lunch
Mug cake from PaleOMG

Dinner
Chicken thighs, acorn squash and tomatoes with mozzarella

Day 19 of the 21DSD

Only 3 more days!  I am excited to finish but I am really not planning to eat much differently.  I will add in some fruit (I have a kumquat tree and persimmons are in season) but I am not planning to dive head first into sugar.  I will eat paleo pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving but plan on getting right back on track Friday.  I guess you can say, I will be doing a modified 21DSD because I will be eating some seasonal fruit.  I can honestly say, I am pretty sick of bananas!  lol

Here is my food today

Breakfast
Sausage patties, butternut squash, peppermint tea

Lunch/Dinner
Beef fajita salad with guacamole and salsa

Snack
baked apple, pumpkin seeds, 8 ounces of kombucha

Day 18 of the 21DSD

Well, today is day 18.  I am going to be honest.  It has been a long week and I want chocolate and a big glass (not 8 ounces) of kombucha.  Am I going to do it?  NO!  I am almost done and I am sticking with it.
My sleep has been horrible too lately.  I see a lot of posts about people saying how great their sleep is when they do the detox.  I am not finding that to be for me.  I don't know if it is stress, hormones or something else.  I wake up every night and cannot go back to sleep.  Hopefully, I can get it figured out soon.
Other than that, I am feeling good.  My food has been good and I am not that hungry throughout the day.

Here are my meals

Breakfast
Sausage, tomato, red pepper

Lunch
the last of the leftover jambalaya

Dinner
leftover Puerto Rican beef with roasted butternut squash

Snack
sausage patty, walnuts and a baked apple

Day 17 of the 21DSD

Well, it is day 17.  Last night at taekwondo, someone brought cupcakes to celebrate a kid's birthday.  In the past, the icing would have called my name.  Now, it did not even tempt me.  Even if I did try a bite I think I would find that it would be sickeningly sweet.  It is so nice to be in control of my sugar cravings again.  I am really hoping to continue with no sugar (except for pie on Thanksgiving) all the way until Christmas.  We will see how it goes.

My meals today

Breakfast
leftover jambalaya (I made a big pot and I am the only one eating it)

Lunch
leftover beed cutlets with zucchini noodles

Dinner
Puerto Rican Beef over a sweet potato (after taekwondo)

Snack
Kombucha, banana, almond butter, cacao nibs

Day 16 of the 21DSD

Today is day 16 of the 21DSD.  Only 5 more days!  I am doing pretty good with my meals even without eggs.  I have been making big batches of food so I have plenty of leftovers for the next day.  I  miss making the mug cakes and muffins that I keep seeing on Facebook.  Next week I will try to reintroduce eggs and see what happens.
I don't think I have been drinking enough water throughout the day so I am going to try and up my water intake.  I don't seem to be super peppy this week like last week.  Not sure what is going on there.

Here are my meals today

Breakfast
chicken sausage, tomato, avocado

Lunch
jambalaya, banana with almond butter and raw cacao

Dinner
crockpot beef cutlets with tomatoes and onions on top of zucchini noodles

Snack
8 ounces of kombucha, pistachios

Day 15 of the 21DSD

Only one more week of the detox.  What am I going to eat when I am finished?  Well, I bought some local oranges at the farmer's market and I really want to eat one!  Plus, I have a kumquat tree and it has fruit ready to eat!  I think I am going to just add some fruit back and that is it for a while.  I am planning to have some pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving (grain-free of course) but then get right back to no sugar.  No sugar really works best for me.

Here were my foods today

Breakfast
Chicken sausage, tomato, 1/2 avocado

Lunch
Green-tipped banana, almond butter, cacao nibs, pecans

Dinner
Primal Jambalaya

Snack
8 ounces of Kombucha

Day 14 of the 21DSD

Today is 2 weeks finished of the detox.  I can't believe how fast it has gone by.  I think having the new 21DSD book with all the recipes has really helped my planning a lot.  I am trying to make different things so I don't get bored with the same foods everyday.

Today was another crazy day!  I had a good breakfast and then went grocery shopping.  While at the store I got a call that said the dog we had been fostering for 8 weeks had been adopted!  I was happy for her but sad for me, I will miss her.  But, the rescue had just found a 6 month old chocolate lab and we decided to foster him.  So, we spent the day going to get him and playing with him.  We had so much fun, so much so that I forgot to eat lunch!  Around 6:30 I remembered I hadn't eaten since breakfast!
How great is it that I can go all day without eating and not even think about food!  No hunger pains, no grouchiness, no shaky or dizziness.  Yeah!

Here were my food today:

Breakfast
Chicken legs, red bell pepper, almond butter

Dinner
Chicken legs, leftover hamburger from yesterday (about 1/4), cucumber

Snack
8 ounces of kombucha, sunflower cups

Day 13 of the 21DSD

Its Day 13!  Almost 2 weeks finished!  It really has gone by so fast.

The key to the 21 days is planning ahead!  It really helps to have food readily available at all times.  So what did I do this morning?  I left the house without eating breakfast.  We are fostering a dog and I had to take her to the rescue place this morning (hopefully to get adopted).  I was running late and the place is 25 miles from my house so I thought it would be ok.  After I dropped the dog off, my plan was to go to the farmers market.  But I was Hungry!  Luckily, I found a Trader Joe's close by.  Usually when I go to Trader Joe's, I buy plantain chip and dried mango.  But not today!  But I did find a good snack of prosciutto (ham and salt)  and some raw veggies (carrots, tomatoes, jicima and snap peas).  It was perfect!  I ate in the car and then went about my day.

So just remember, before you grab something not approved, look around first.  You may find somethings that will work.

Breakfast
Prosciutto, raw veggies

Lunch
Chicken legs, baked apple

Dinner
Double meat patty, avocado, bacon and onions

Snack
Kombucha, almond butter

Day 12 of the 21DSD

Day 12!  So far so good.  Today is Friday and it is my hardest day.  My husband and I go to our favorite mexican food place every Friday.  We have been going there for 8 years with always the same waiter.  I usually have Friday's as the day where I eat whatever I want for dinner.  I love beef fajita nachos and chips and guacamole!  But,  I get the fajita salad and it is good to, I just have to stay away from the chips!  I don't drink so that is not a problem.

Food is right on plan!

Breakfast
Leftover stuffing from the acorn squash with bone broth, coffee with ghee and coconut oil

Lunch
chicken legs, tomatoes

Dinner
beef fajita salad with guacamole and salsa

Snack
8 ounces of kombucha, baked apple

Day 11 of the 21DSD

Today is day 11!  Halfway there!  I have been cooking up a storm to make sure I always have a protein since I am not eating eggs.  I have been eating a lot more  homemade chicken broth which has been perfect because the weather is getting cooler.

I have probably said this before but I cannot believe how much energy I have!  I wake up ready to go in the morning and I go all day.  No mid-afternoon slump.  I also get about 9 hours of sleep every night.

Here were my meals for today:

Breakfast
Chicken soup with added sausage, 1/2 avocado

Lunch
leftover stuffed acorn squash

Dinner
more leftover acorn squash, sautéed cabbage

Snack
8 ounces of kombucha, 3 mini almond cups

I did not eat any fruit today.  Honestly, I forgot but I did have two helpings of squash so I figured it will even out.

Day 10 of the 21DSD

I can't believe it has been 10 days since I started the detox.  Those sugar cravings are but a distant memory.  Believe me when I say, I crave sugar.  I would wake up every morning and my first thought was sugar, mainly chocolate.  There have been days in the past where I would only eat sugar all day, no real food.  So, for me to say my sugar cravings are gone is HUGE!
And guess what?  If it works for me, it can work for you!  What are you waiting for?  Try the detox for 21 days.  What do you have to lose?

Here are my meals for the day

Breakfast:
Leftover chicken soup with sausage, green tea with gelatin

Lunch:
Ribs, sausage, cabbage and 1/2 avocado

Dinner:
Stuffed acorn squash from Stupid Easy Paleo- it was fantastic!

Snack:
8 ounces kombucha, 3 mini chocolate cups (21DSD), brussels sprouts from Whole Foods

Day 9 of the 21DSD

Today is my first day egg and coconut free.  Hopefully, it goes well!  I feel really good but I did notice today at taekwondo class that it seemed extra hard.  I did eat a sweet potato last night after class but maybe I am not fully detoxed yet.
I have to say, I don't miss sugar at all!  It is so nice to wake up in the morning and not want something sweet.  So glad this detox works for me!
My husband wanted BBQ for dinner tonight so I made sure to get gluten-free meat!

Breakfast
sausage patties, tomatoes and cucumbers with balsamic

Lunch
chicken "noodle" soup with sweet potato (after tkd)

Dinner
Ribs, brisket, sausage, sautéed cabbage/onions

S-green-tipped banana with almond butter and raw cacao nibs, 8 ounces of kombucha

Day 8 of the 21DSD

So, today I made a decision.  I have been having a problem with bloating lately and I thought the detox would solve the problem but so far it hasn't.  Something I have realized is 1.  I eat a LOT of eggs.  I eat eggs everyday, sometimes multiple times a day.  2.  every time I drink a coconut milk smoothie, I have stomach problems.  I do not know if it is the guar gum or the coconut.  I have decided for the rest of my detox to be egg and coconut free.  I was going to say nut free but I am going to try and just limit those since I don't eat a lot but I do love my almond butter/banana.
I am hoping it won't be too hard but I am going to have to be creative for breakfast.  My plan is to make extra dinner so I can have it for breakfast and maybe lunch too.  Lately lunch has been coconut milk smoothies so I will miss those but I know it was causing me problems.

Other than that, I feel pretty good.  I have noticed that I am waking up earlier and I have more energy during the day! Yay!

Here are my meals today:

Breakfast
sausage, deviled eggs, tomato

Lunch
chocolate coconut milk smoothie

Dinner
Chicken "noodle" soup, sweet potato (after taekwondo class)

Snack
8 ounces kombucha, sausage patty, almond butter

Day 7 of the 21DSD

One week down for the sugar detox!   It seemed to go by pretty fast.  It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.  The first time I did the detox, I was actually in bed sick on days 5-7.
I have found that on weekends, my schedule is pretty different and I am not as good at eating full meals.  I tend to snack more.  I need to work on drinking more water.  I keep forgetting.
I felt pretty good today and had lots of energy.  I think the worst may be over.

Here are my meals today:

Breakfast
eggs, peppers, onion, tomatoes with sausage

S-deviled eggs

S-baked apple with nuts

D-leftover chicken, brussels sprouts, parsnip fries

Day 6 of the 21DSD

So, today is day 6.  Almost one week down!  I am feeling better today and I seem to have more energy.  My food was sporadic today because I was on the go a lot. I made a mug cake for the first time today and it was really good.  I think I am going to start making those more often.  Who knew sweetener free desserts could taste so good?  The only thing I miss right now is kombucha.  I am drinking 8 ounces but since I make my own I usually drink more than that each day.

Here are my meals today

Breakfast
Coffee with ghee and coconut oil

Snack
jicama, nuts

Lunch
Deviled eggs, kale chips

Dinner
chicken, parsnip fries, brussels sprouts

Dessert

mug cake from PaleOMG

Day 5 of the 21DSD

Today is day 5!  Last night I had a dream that I ate a bag of peanut M & M's.  In the dream, I knew I was on the detox but I ate them anyway!  Good thing it was just a dream.
I woke up feeling fine but as the day went on my stomach started getting upset and I was really tired.  I really wanted to take a nap but things did not work out for the nap.
My food was ok, but I found myself wanting something sweet.  I drank my kombucha and that seemed to help some.  I am ready for the detox side affects to be over!

Here are my meals today:

Breakfast
leftover chili, butternut squash topped with an egg and bone broth

Snack-baked apple -really good!

Lunch/Dinner
Beef fajita salad

Snack

jicima, pistachios, kombucha

Day 4 of the 21DSD

Today is day 4 of my 21-Day Sugar Detox.  I woke up feeling pretty good, had a good breakfast and feeling fine.  Once I got out in the real world however, I noticed that people were irritating me.  A small word or joke someone made and I was ready to tear their head off.  Luckily, before I opened my mouth I realized it was the detox making me this way.  So, I just kept to myself and didn't share what was going on in my head. lol    I forgot to mention that I went to be super early last night and got 10 hours of sleep.  Yes, you read that right, 10 hours!  I guess my body needed it.

I did go to takekwondo today and felt ok but I did not push myself too much.

I did notice that I was not that hungry today.
Here are my meals for the day:

Breakfast
leftover steak and eggs, butternut squash, tomato, bone broth

Lunch
lime in the coconut smoothie (from the 21dsd book), piece of non sweetened banana bread with omghee on top

Dinner
chili over sweet potato
(athlete's plan), 1/2 avocado

Snack
Kombucha

Day 3 of the 21DSD

So today is day 3 of the detox.   I should say I am doing Level 3 which is the strictest level.  It is not hard for me to not eat dairy because I really don't like milk or cheese (weird I know).
I did notice that my headache was gone but I am bloated for some reason today.  I have also noticed that I am not concentrating very well.  My thoughts are all over the place like ADD or something.
My grown son is doing the detox with me (he is level 1, first timer) and he is having a harder time.  He is soo tired.
Luckily, I cooked a lot of food yesterday so we are having leftovers for dinner.  That is key for me, either cook a lot at one time or use the crock-pot.

I did go for a nice walk today but that is all the exercise I did today.

Here were my meals today:

Breakfast
buffalo chicken muffins, slaw, 1/2 avocado and bulletproof coffee (coffee blended with ghee and coconut oil)

Lunch
meatloaf, brussels sprouts, slaw

Dinner
leftover steak with peppers and onions over brussels sprouts topped with avocado/pepper spread

Snack
Banana with almond butter, coconut and cacao nibs
8 oz of kombucha

Wednesday, November 6, 2013

Day 2 of the 21DSD

So, today was day 2 of the 21-Day Sugar Detox and I have to say, I feel better today than yesterday.  I still have a nagging headache but it is not that bad.  I know from previous experience that days 5-7 are the worst for me.  I am taking L-glutamine and it seems to be helping with the cravings.  I am also drinking a lot of green tea.  Here is what my food looked like today:

Breakfast
Pumpkin Pancakes with sunbutter and bacon, chicken broth

Lunch
meatloaf and green beans, one slice of non-sweetened banana bread, green tea

Dinner
Steak, paleo detox salad, balsamic winter squash, green tea

Snacks-8 ounces of kombucha
